Classic Vanilla Flan (Caramel Custard)

Classic Vanilla Flan is a traditional dessert loved around the world. Smooth, creamy, and topped with golden caramel, this recipe is perfect for special occasions or a simple homemade dessert.

Ingredients

Caramel

  • 1 cup sugar

Custard

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns golden caramel.
  2. Carefully pour the caramel into a flan mold, spreading evenly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the caramel.
  5. Place the mold in a baking dish filled with hot water (water bath).
  6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 45–50 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
  9. Unmold and serve chilled.

Tips

  • Do not overcook to keep the flan smooth.
  • Chill well before serving for best texture.
